Germantown, Tenn. (October 29, 2012) – Anjum Malhotra, a senior at St. Mary’s Episcopal School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Malhotra is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Foreign Language. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Malhotra and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Malhotra is a superior student who signed a pledge at the start of the school year to speak only Spanish in her Spanish class. She holds a 5.41 weighted grade point average and scored 33 on the ACT. Malhotra also earned a 2250 on the SAT with perfect scores of 800 on the Writing and Critical Reading sections of the test. She currently is taking AP Spanish. Malhotra always places at the gold level on the National Spanish Exam.
Because of her talent in Spanish, Malhotra was elected president of the Spanish Club. She also has a deep interest in Latin culture. She works regularly with refugee students and Hispanic students to help with study skills and reading. Malhotra earned membership in the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators. Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
